Peter Appleyard and the Jazz Giants - The Lost Sessions 1974

Since moving to Toronto in 1951, Peter Appleyard has been at the top level of Canadian jazz. Touring with acts such as Benny Goodman, Mel Torme and Dick Hyman, Peter has established himself as a premiere vibraphone player at home and abroad.

Peter has two albums coming out in short order, with the first out on March 27th, 2012.

Peter Appleyard and the Jazz Giants: The Lost Sessions 1974 was recorded in 1974 and shopped around but no one picked it up. Now, 38 years later the sessions are finally coming out. Featuring an all-star lineup that includes Hank Jones, Slam Stewart, Mel Lewis, Zoot Sims, Bobby Hackett and Urbie Green.

In addition to the music, the album contains many of the false starts and crosstalk between the musicians, offering a rare glimpse into the recording process and the relationship between these amazing musicians.

Peter stopped by Afternoon Drive on March 26th, 2012, to talk about the album and his career.
